QEP Topic Selection Update
August 19, 2019 – ValloVoice post–This summer, the 25-member QEP Topic Selection committee, which is tasked with identifying potential topics for UM’s next Quality Enhancement Plan, continued its work and is now ready to share results with the UM community.
After reviewing reams of University data, ranging from results of national student surveys and strategic planning feedback to three years’ worth of student learning outcome assessments from every one of our academic programs, two topics emerged: quantitative reasoning and professional development.
As a means of communicating information to all University constituents, the committee created proposals for each topic. These white papers are available for review [below]. Campus feedback about the potential topics is vital to the process, so the committee developed a plan for facilitating that effort, which includes several listening sessions.
This week, committee members will offer a brief presentation about each topic at Faculty Convocation. They will then host three targeted listening sessions — one each for students, faculty and staff. The dates for those sessions are as follows:
- Faculty Listening Session: Wednesday, Sept. 11, 3:30 p.m. in Wills 200 (as part of Faculty Assembly)
- Student Listening Session: Wednesday, Sept. 18, 4:30 p.m. in Farmer Hall
- Staff Listening Session: Friday, Sept. 20, 1 p.m., location TBA
While each listening session has a target audience, all sessions are public and open to anyone who would like to attend. Once sessions are complete, campus constituents will receive information regarding a brief online survey where everyone can once again offer feedback regarding the potential topics. The QEP Topic Selection Committee will then review all feedback and formulate a recommendation for UM’s SACSCOC Reaffirmation Leadership Team. The topic will be determined no later than November, at which time a soon-to-be-formed QEP Development Committee will move the topic into its development phase.
