University of Montevallo ADA Compliance
The University of Montevallo Content Owners and Content Managers are responsible for ensuring their webpages are ADA Compliant. Both are required to attend mandatory training once a year either by video or in person. The Web Applications Specialist assists with questions that arise in the interim.
The University of Montevallo uses the free extension, WAVE Tool, to check for accessibility errors based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, focusing on level A and AA guidelines. The extension can be attached to Chrome or Firefox browsers. Pages must be checked one at a time using this tool. When errors are found they are fixed by the Web Applications Specialist and communicated to the Content Manager.
The WAVE tool is used at least once a week. The main focus is on landing pages as they get the most hits because they lead to a large collection of pages. The parent pages of the Colleges are also frequently checked as they are changed often. When new sections of pages are added, they are also checked for compliance.
Logs are kept noting the URL and the date it was checked, if it passed or if there were errors. When errors are detected, the Web Applications Specialist corrects the errors and communicates with the Content Manager, if necessary.
